My lovely family threw me the most beautiful afternoon tea bridal shower in August of 2021. Since everyone here loves afternoon tea, I thought I would share the details. It was a gorgeous sunny day and a truly wonderful experience. The Wedgewood Hotel is brimming with stunningly beautiful old-world decor. The hotel exudes charm and class and Bacchus restaurant has a fantastic afternoon tea, so it was a perfect choice. The event was located on one of the hotel’s terraces and even though it was quite a hot day, it was a truly lovely event.
The Decor
The Wedgwood provided the tables and chairs and white linens, pressed to perfection. My mother, (the decorator extraordinaire) provided the blush runners. The flower arrangements were lovingly created by La Belle Fleur. The arrangements were the perfect mix of light pinks and dusty purples.
The Cake
The cake was a chocolate raspberry layer cake baked at Anjan’s, where we have ordered many special occasion cakes in the past. It was delightful.
The Afternoon Tea
Every part of the afternoon tea was scrumptious and beautifully plated. The menu was as follows:
ASSORTMENT OF GOURMET FINGER SANDWICHES
Classic English Cucumber with Cream Cheese (V)
Free Range Egg Salad with Watercress on Brioche (V)
Applewood Smoked Salmon Roulade
Hand-Peeled Baby Shrimp on Multigrain
Chicken & Cranberry on Rye bread
SELECTION OF PASTRIES & SWEETS
Chocolate Dipped Eclairs with Vanilla Crème
Seasonal Rotating Macaroons (V) (GF)
Cinnamon Panna Cotta, Orange Caramel Sauce (GF)
Seasonal Fruit Tartlet(V)
Lemon Passion Fruit Curd Tartlet (V)
Opera Cake, Almond Genoise, Coffee Butter Cream (V)
Earl Grey Scented Milk Chocolate Crémeux (V)
SAVORY CAKES
Freshly-Baked Scones (V)
Warm Toasted English Muffin (V)
Clotted Cream, Assorted Preserves
Creamery Butter
Savouries
The savouries were a big hit with everyone at the head table. I particularly enjoyed the Chicken and Cranberry on Rye as well as the Hand-Peeled Baby Shrimp on Multigrain, but all of the finger sandwiches were impeccably executed.
Scones
The scones were delicious. There was an assortment of a few different flavours- all of them delightful. There were also English muffins on offer, which was a more unique addition.
Sweets
The sweet selection was excellent. My favourites were the Cinnamon Panna Cotta with Orange Caramel Sauce and the Earl Grey Scented Milk Chocolate Crémeux. The chocolate macarons were also a big hit with all in attendance.
Tea and Tipsy Drinks
Guests sipped on Kir Royale, fresh lemonade and tea from the extensive tea menu.
